The core density varies along its length and, in turn, varies the element strength along its length. The core can include either a ceramic material or a urethane foam. The face sheet can include metals, a fiber reinforced polymeric material or a polymer matrix composite material. The element can take the shape of a beam, plate or shell and can be used in high pressure and high temperature applications.
