The invention relates to an indoor fireplace provided with a closed metal hearth (4) and arranged so that the hood (6) of the fireplace remains cold and can do without thermal insulation. Above the metal hearth (4), a convection chamber (20) is defined by a prefabricated element (21), preferably made from concrete, which can rest on the band (course, moulding) (5). This chamber is traversed by the fume (smoke) pipe (flue) (9) emerging from the metal hearth (4). It receives air which passes through a gap (40) between the metal hearth (4), the lateral pillars (1) and the rear partition (2) of the fireplace. This heated air is discharged into the premises via exit conduits (32) which may lead to vents (34) placed in the walls of the hood (6). <IMAGE>
