Nappy of the type which comprises a casing formed by a permeable layer which is applied to the body of the user and an opposite, impermeable layer, characterized in that the permeable layer 1 is narrower than the impermeable layer. In the zone of the longitudinal edges of the layer 1, along lines 5, bands 4 are joined which have parts 4a juxtaposed vis-à-vis the corresponding lateral margins of the said impermeable layer. The parts of the bands 4 which will form free strips located further towards the inside of the nappy have their ends 4c joined to the face of the layer 1 by means of an adhesive substance or by means of a heat-welding process and are equipped with pre- stretched elastic threads 8 which are housed inside hems (casings) 7.
