This invention relates to an instrument which allows sutures to be performed endoscopically with classical suture threads, by means of rigid endoscopes. The use thereof will thus be viable in endoscopic techniques of General Surgery, Urology, Gynaecology, Gastroenterology and Orthopaedics. Basically it is made up of a cylindrical tube with a bore of 27 Ch or close thereto, of variable length depending on the field of application. The cylinder is crossed throughout its length by four pipes: two with an approximate diameter of 1.2 mm, continuing in one of the ends with two tubes with a lumen of the same bore and with a length of about 6 cm, with the curved ends turned towards each other, with a distance of about 1.5 cm between them. In each of the pipes, and in the tubes which are the extension thereof, there is a longitudinal slot about 0.2 mm wide along the entire length. These pipes are intended to allow the suture material to pass from the outside to the inside and back again, and the slots allow the suture thread to be conveyed from the outside to the edges of the wound to be sutured. In the cylindrical tube there are two other pipes of greater bore: one for passage of the endoscopic lens, the other to allow passage of the auxiliary material for endoscopic surgery. These two pipes communicate with each other throughout their length. The suture material is made up of a filament of hard, but flexible and indeformable plastic, or flexible and indeformable metal thread, with a diameter of about 1 mm and a length about 10 cm greater than double the length of the sheath of the endoscopy instrument to be used, one end being pointed and the suture thread, with a length of about 60 cm, being fixed at the other end. <IMAGE>
