The invention relates to a process and device for the automatic manufacture of pants (slips) which comprises: - "x" cutting stations, each one associated with a gripping device 14 which places the cut pieces Ds, Dv, Df, F on belt conveyors 20, 21, 22 equipped with gripping needles 27, 30; - a series of assembly stations E, G at which the belts intersect, turn and/or are positioned face to face in order to assemble the pieces which are then sewn; - an unfolding station 7 at which the assembled piece 5 is unfolded and carried by two belts with parallel needles; - a station J at which the assembled piece is taken by a multiple-arm conveyor member, the said arm being carried by a structure which allows it to move along two perpendicular axes in order to pass the edge of the fabric in front of elastic positioning devices containing a fixed-head sewing machine which positions an elastic, a trim (braid) lace, etc. and sews them; - "Y" stations M1 to M4 for positioning elastics or for sewing trim, lace, etc.; - a discharge station M of the multiple-arm member, at which the unfolded piece 57 is placed on a clip carried symmetrically face to face on a belt conveyor; - a folding device 70 consisting of a belt conveyor equipped with gripping means, such as the needles 27, 30, or clamps 109 containing at least one circuit 72, 73 for folding the assembled piece equipped with elastics 57; - a belt transfer member 74 which transfers the piece folded by the folding device 70 to a clamp 75 with U- shaped cores 75a, 75b, the said clamp 75 containing fingers 81 to 84 for opening the finished pants and placing them in front of clamps for turning inside out which are associated with an inflation means which turn them from inside out to right-side out, passing in front of a first side picking station, being turned through 180 degree and moving opposite a second side picking station which carries the pants to a position for turning inside out where they are turned from inside out to right-side out.
