PURPOSE:To obtain quick-drying ink for ink jet recording which can be transferred well to a transfer medium and can provide a high-quality printing stably by employing an ink jet mechanism and ink for ink jet printing in combination, thereby allowing the ink to permeate through a transfer medium for fixation. CONSTITUTION:A coloring agent (having an average particle size of 2mum or less, if any), a solvent, and optionally a surfactant, a dispersant, a soluble resin and a resin emulsion are mixed to obtain ink 2 for ink jet recording having a surface tension (at 25 deg.C) of 50dyne/cm or less and a viscosity (at 25 deg.C) of 20mpa.sec or less. This ink 2 is employed in an ink jet printer, where the ink is discharged, as ink droplets 3, from a nozzle 4 provided on the nozzle-forming substrate 1 when a pressure is applied by the displacement of a piezoelectric transducer.
