<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a compact and light-weight optical mouse having the minimized number of troubles and also improving the designing freedom degree of the mouse by providing an optical fiber group on the optical path of the light reflected from a pad to lead this reflected light to a detector. CONSTITUTION:When an optical mouse 24 is moved on a pad 4, a detector 3 reads a position information pattern of the pad 4 with the reflected light Q and outputs a read signal R. A signal processing circuit 5 receives the signal R and processes it to output a position signal S to display in order to show the position of a cursor in response to the mouse 24. The light Q received from the pad 4 includes a part having a large quantity of the reflected light and a part having a small quantity of the reflected light in accordance with the vertical and horizontal cyclic patterns of the pad 4. Thus the quantities of light made incident on the optical fibers forming an optical fiber group 2 are different from each other. Therefore the optical fibers provided on an end face 2b of the group 2 at the side of the pad 4 and the vertical/horizontal cyclic patterns formed on the pad 4 can be arranged in various forms suited for calculation of the moving amount and the moving direction of the mouse 24.</p> |
