PURPOSE:To measure the concn. of hydrogen or steam stably over a long period of time by using a solid material formed by mixing aluminum phosphate or apatite hydroxide and a perovskite type oxide exhibiting the combined electric conductivity of oxide ions and electrons. CONSTITUTION:The solid reference material 2 of a sensor element 1 is formed by mixing the aluminum phosphate or apatite hydroxide and the perovskite type oxide exhibiting the combined electric conductivity of the oxide ions and the electrons at 1:20 to 9:1 mixing ratio and packing the mixture into the element. A gas to be measured is supplied via an introducing pipe 13 into the element 1 formed of a solid electrolyte. A reference electrode 3 and measuring electrode 4 heat a closed end part to a prescribed temp. for measuring electromotive force. Then, galvanic electromotive force is generated between the electrode 4 and the electrode 3 by the movement of proton. This electromotive force is detected. The reference material 2 maintains the partial pressure of the steam on the electrode 3 side approximately constant in this case. The gas to be measured is continuously supplied into the element 1. The concn. of the hydrogen or steam is continuously and stably measured in this way. |
