In the prodn. of a photographic film base with an antiroll gelatin back coating, the novel features are that the material is given, (a) a first coat contg. proteinaceous binder and hardener, in which at least one component is a Cr-III salt (I) and dried to the sol. form without setting; then (b) a second coat of hardener soln. contg. (I), but no gelatin, which is then dried. The claims also cover a hardener soln. for proteinaceous photographic coats, which contains (I) and completely hydrolysed PVA.
