Patients with weak or defective foot muscles are fitted with an orthopaedic device which consists of a sole plate (16). This is connected by tension springs (25) to a splint (18) with the upper end of the splint attached to a band (21) which fits around the calf. The sole plate has two side extensions (17) which are connected by pivoted joints (15), aligned with the axis (14) of the ankle joint, to the side pieces (19) which are attached to the splint. At least one of the tension springs is mounted at the front of the device with one end attached to the splint and the other end attached to the sole plate .
