PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst having high performance executing the steam reforming without adding the elements such as alkali metals by depositing nickel in an aluminum oxide porous body having specified properties of fine pores. CONSTITUTION:As a carrier for the catalyst for steam reforming, an aluminum oxide porous body in which the volume of fine pores having 0.1 to 0.5mum pore size is regulated to >=0.2ml/g as well as the volume of fine pores having 0.5 to 10mum pore size is regulated to >=0.05ml/g and the purity after soaking and drying is regulated to >=98wt.% is used. Then, this porous body is impregnated with a nickel-contg. soln., is dried, is thereafter sintered so as to be deposited with nickel in such a manner that its weight in the total weight of the catalyst is regulated to 3 to 20wt.% expressed in terms of nickel oxide. In the catalyst obtd. by the above-mentioned manner, active nickel is uniformly dispersed into the carrier, so that the deterioration of the activity caused by the deposition of carbon is low even without adding the elements such as alkali metals. |
