PURPOSE:To obtain the title composition which is highly flexible, tough and resistant to alkali and has good adhesion to aramid fiber or concrete by mixing a specified polysulfide-modified epoxy resin with an amine. CONSTITUTION:A polysulfide-modified epoxy resin of formula I [wherein R1 and R3 are each an organic group having a bisphenol skeleton; R2 is a polysulfide skeleton of formula II (wherein (m) is 1-3 and represent an average content of S in the polysulfide skeleton; and (n) is 1-50 and represents an average content of the polysulfide skeletons per molecule)] is mixed with an amine (e.g. triethylenetetramine or m-xylenediamine) to obtain an epoxy resin composition for an aramid fiber prepreg having an elongation at break after being cured of 5% or above. This composition is highly flexible, tough and excellent in alkali resistance and has good adhesion to aramid fiber or concrete. This composition is suitable not only as a matrix of composite materials for civil engineering and construction such as a reinforcement for concrete but also as a matrix of composite materials for automobiles, ships and industry. |
