PURPOSE:To reduce the density variation of halftone by detecting two or more surface states of an image carrier which include a state correlative to the medium part in the density reproducing range of an output image and are correlative to the density of the output image and arithmetically operating and setting an image forming condition in accordance with the detected value. CONSTITUTION:An electrostatic latent image is visualized by developing devices 9-1 to 9-3, transferred to a transfer material 11 by a transfer charger 10, and fixed by a fixing device 12. Meanwhile, a probe 14a of an electrometer for a surface potential 14 is provided to be close to the surface of a photosensitive drum 4 at a position after exposure with a laser beam and detects the potential of the latent image at the time of controlling the surface potential. The potential detected by the electrometer 14 is converted into a digital signal by an A/D converter 20 and inputted in a microcomputer 21 for controlling the potential. Then, the specified signal is outputted to respective means for setting the image forming condition through a D/A converter 22 based on various data after performing arithmetic processing by algorithm. Thus, the image having little variation of the density of the halftone is obtained. |
