PURPOSE:To industrially and advantageously obtain the objective compound in high selectivity by carrying out decomposition of an alicyclic hydrocarbon hydroperoxide in the liquid phase in the presence of an aqueous solution containing cations of iron or copper in producing a cyclic ketone according to the aforementioned decomposition. CONSTITUTION:An alicyclic hydrocarbon hydroperoxide is decomposed in the liquid phase in the presence of an aqueous solution containing cations of iron or copper in a molar amount of 0.001-1.0, preferably 0.01-0.1 based on the above- mentioned compound to afford a cyclic ketone useful as an intermediate for organic chemical synthesis from the aforementioned raw material in high selectivity using the extremely inexpensive aqueous solution of the above-mentioned cations, having high safety and readily separable from the oily phase containing the aforementioned raw material. Furthermore, the reaction temperature is 10-150 deg.C, preferably 30-l20 deg.C, especially 50-100 deg.C and the cyclic ketone which is the reaction product is obtained by distillation and purification. The recovered aqueous solution containing the above-mentioned cations can be reutilized. |
