The subject of the present invention is an accessory for a motor vehicle for the purpose of enhancing the acoustics, which accessory exhibits a cover plate 3 which is equipped with an aperture 5 in which the loudspeaker 9 is fixed. The loudspeaker 9 has a face 16 which is open towards the rear for the purpose of producing the free radiation of an acoustic field created from the rear face 16 towards an empty space 23 which has a volume greater than 1 dm<3> and is bounded by a cover plate 3, a rear wall 19, and side faces 21. The means for enhancing the quality of reproduction of the sound from the loudspeaker 9 include at least one part of acoustic construction 15 comprising a first layer damping the vibrations 25 and a second layer absorbing the noise 27, which layer is equipped with a surface which has to perform acoustic reflection with diffusion and which has a protective layer 29 which is impermeable to water and which adheres to the said surface.
