The present invention relates to an infrared radiation sensor device intended for the ignition of a proximity fuse. This device, which is of the centred catoptric type, located in the nose of the shell 6 and receiving the radiation through slits 11, is characterised in that its field of vision has a centred blind cone of revolution 2, the apex angle alpha of which is the solid angle in which the target, located in the proximity zone, would be hit on impact by the shell, the apex of the field of vision coinciding substantially with that of the cone serving as an inner envelope for the wounding zone 3 of the shower of fragments from the shell. The invention is used to ignite a proximity fuse for large-calibre ammunition. <IMAGE>
