PURPOSE:To improve sealability and blocking resistance, by dissolving a water- soluble polysaccharide consisting essentially of carrageenan in a medium comprising a polyhydric alcohol and water and forming the solution into a filmy state. CONSTITUTION:1 pt.wt. water-soluble polysaccharide containing >=50wt.% carrageenan is dissolved in 0.2-1 pt. wt. medium comprising 200.2wt.% polyhydric alcohol (e.g. ethylene glycol) and 80-99.8wt.% water to give a solution, which is formed into a filmy state and dried to give an edible film having <=25wt.% water content, 10-100mum thickness and a weight ratio of the polyhydric alcohol and the polysaccharide of 0.2-1. |
