Electrical contacts made of silver and tin-oxide, and possibly other additives are used in combination with an opposing contact of Ag with 3% Cu. Also claimed is the use of pure Ag and of Ag with not more than 1% Ni as the opposing contact. USE/ADVANTAGE - The performance of the Ag/SnO2 contacts is pref. to that of the current Ag/CdO contacts. This is because of the environmental damage which can result from the use of Cd-cpds. Other advantages are that the Ag/SnO2 contacts are thermally more stable which shows in its reduced burn-off rate and longer life. The material is also easier to make and to machine.
