Herbicidal compsns. contain a 2-phenoxypropionic acid deriv. of formula (I) together with a benzonitrile deriv. of formula (II) or a pyridyloxyacetic acid deriv. of formula (III) R 6-chloro -2-benzoxazolyl, 3,5-dichloro-2-pyridyl or 2-Y-4-X-phenyl; X= Cl or Br; Y=Cl or may be H, when X=Cl; R1=H, 1-4C alkyl, 2-4C alkynyl or a cation; R2=Br or I; R3=H, NH4, alkali metal or 1-8C alkyl; R4=H, 1-8C alkyl or a cation; provided that combinations of (I) and (II) are excluded when R=2-Y-4-X-phenyl. (I) is pref. ethyl 2-(4-(6-chloro-2-benzoxazolyloxy) phenoxy)-propionate (Ia), methyl 2-(4-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy) phenoxy) propionate or 2-propynyl 2-(4-(3,5-dichloro-2-pyridyloxy)phenoxy) propionate (see DE2640730 and 2223894). (II) is pref. 3,5-dibromo- or 3,5-diiodo-4-octyloxy-benzonitrile (see NL6411452). (III) is pref. octyl 2-(3,5-dichloro-4-amino 6-fluoro-2-pyridyloxy)acetate (IIIa) (see Weed Res. Org., technical report No. 63).
