The appts. for applying liquid lubricating media to workpieces with large surfaces incorporates at least one application roller (11, 12) which has radial passages for liquid and is provided with a carrier roller (24) mounted rotatably on a hollow axle. The outer surface (23) of the carrier roller - which is inclined to the horizontal (22). - is provided with grooves (27) over a region at the higher end of the roller. Radial channels (17) for liquid lead into these grooves close to their higher ends. As an alternative, the inclined carrier roller is made up of an outer sleeve provided with radial channels for liquid lubricant, and an inner element in the form of a screw serving as a lubricant conveyor. The outer sleeve is provided with a lubricant distribution layer in the form of brushes, felt or fibre matting.
