Compact high-power thyristor stack for heavy duty machinery - uses cylindrical frame formed from disc-shaped heat sinks

A stack of high-power thyristors (4) controlling the electric-motor of a coal-cutting machine is mounted on-axis in a cylindrical frame comprising disc-shaped heat-sinks (2), each containing a thyristor and serving as spacers and conduits for the supply cables and coolant manifolds for the heat-sinks. The stack is held in compression by two bolts (8) running respectively through holes on opposite sides of the heat-sinks and maintaining thermal contact between them and the thyristors via a single spring at the end (6). It is contained in a cylindrical outer cover (1) or alternatively, incorporated with the motor stator. ADVANTAGE - Contains thyristors, heat-sinks and supply cables in same compact assembly.
