The IC engines are in V-formation, with a 90 deg. angle between the two cylinder rows, having offset cylinders. A crank throw for a 6-cylinder engine has two stroke journals, turned through 30 deg. relative to each other, for two connecting rods, with an intermediate plate between the two, in engines with a higher number of cylinders, the connecting rods are connected to the bearings of a common stroke journal. The cylinder offset (a) of the two rows is increased, so that for all engines in the series, there is an offset (b) of the centres (20,21) of the big end bearings (22,23) relative to the associated cylinder axis (5,6). In 6-cylinder engines, this is away from the intermediate plate (17); and in engines with more than six cylinders, towards the centre of the stroke journal.
