<p>A method and apparatus for controlling slag in a tilting furnace are provided. The apparatus comprises a trough (5) having a lateral opening (7), a discharge outlet (23) and a passage defining a non-linear flow path (20) between the lateral opening (7) and the discharge outlet (23). The method comprises the steps of tilting the furnace to discharge molten metal (3) and slag (2) into the trough (5), directing the flow of the molten metal (3) through the flow path (20) in the trough (5), damming and retaining the slag (2) in the trough (5), while permitting the molten metal (3) to flow out of the trough (5), and discharging the retained slag (2) through the lateral opening (7) in the trough (5).</p> |
