PURPOSE:To improve operability and fuel consumption and reduce the discharge of HC and aldehyde by stepwise reducing the exothermic heat quantity of a heater and changing the fuel injection quantity of an auxiliary fuel injection valve in response to water temperature and the concentration of alcohol. CONSTITUTION:An engine 1 is provided with an auxiliary fuel injection valve 3 installed in intake system, and a PTC heater 4 for heating fuel injected from the auxiliary fuel injection valve 3. When the engine 1 starts, a control unit 5 operates the auxiliary fuel injection valve 3 and the PTC heater 4 in response to water temperature and the concentration of alcohol. Further, after the engine is started, the control unit 5 stepwise reduces the fuel injection quantity of the auxiliary fuel injection valve 3 and the exothermic heat quantity of the PTC heater 4. Thus, in all cases of water temperature and the concentration of alcohol, the frequency of ''ON 'OFF' of the auxiliary fuel injection valve 3 and the PTC heater 4 can be reduced, and thereby the operability and fuel consumption can be improved. The discharge of HC and aldehyde can also be reduced. |
