PURPOSE:To obtain active carbon extremely reducing decomposition of solvent in adsorbing and desorbing processes using active carbon for recovering an organic halogen-based solvent, by oxidizing active carbon to make the amount of total acidic group >= a specific amount. CONSTITUTION:Active carbon is oxidized and the amount of total acidic group is made >=0.5 milliequivalent/gram to give the objective active carbon. The amount of the total active group is an equivalent of alkali consumed by adding a diluted solution of alkali to active carbon and shaking for many hours. The value of the amount corresponds to the amount of carbonyl group, lactone group and carboxyl group bonded to the surface of carbon material. The amount of the total acidic group contained in the active carbon requires >=0.5 milliequivalent/gram. When the amount of the total acidic group is <0.5 milliequivalent/gram, inadequately decomposition of the organic halogen-based solvent is high. |
