<p>A mechanical handling system for transporting a line of packages includes a lower conveyor system (6) on which the packages are supported and an overhead conveyor system (5). The overhead conveyor system includes a series of spaced rotating mechanisms (8) which include cam activated rotatable positioning members (20) for engaging and turning the packages through 90 degrees during movement along the conveyor path. The lower conveyor system includes a series of package support and divider mechanisms (30) in registry with the positioning members which displace alternate packages transversely to the left and to the right, respectively, of the conveyor path to form two lines of rotated packages. <IMAGE> <IMAGE></p> |
