NEW MATERIAL:A compound of the formula (R is H or methyl). EXAMPLE:2,7-Octadienyl methacrylate. USE:Useful as a raw material for adhesives, tack agents, coatings, printing inks etc. With low viscosity and no offensive odor, also polymerizable by irradiation with ultraviolet rays or electron beams. PREPARATION:The objective compound of the formula can be obtained by ester interchange reaction at 70 - 130 deg.C between (A) a (meth)acrylic ester of formula H2C=CRCOOR' (R' is alkyl) and (B) 2,7-octadiene-1-ol using an alkali metal cyanide (e.g. potassium cyanide) pref. in the presence of a polymerization inhibitor (e.g. hydroquinone). The amount of the raw material (meth)acrylic ester to be used is 1.5 - 10 molar times that of the alcohol; for the alkali metal cyanide as the catalyst, 0.2 - 20wt.% based on the alcohol. |
