PURPOSE:To obtain an air separating device, increasing the air extracting amount of a main air heat exchanger and reducing the necessary heat transfer area of the main air heat exchanger, by arranging an expander discharging bypass valve at the outlet port of the main air heat exchanger. CONSTITUTION:Air, cooled by a main air heat exchanger 1, is supplied to the expansion turbine 8 of an expander compressor and is expanded here to about 0.5 K. A power, geenrated upon expansion, is supplied to the side of the compressor 7 through a shaft. In this case, one part of material air is boosted by an excessive power and the material air is take out after branching from an intermediate extracted air outlet port whereby the rate of occupation of intermediate extracted air in the material air can be increased under a condition that a power, generated in the expander 8, exceeds a power consumed at the side of the compressor 7. In this case, branched material air passes through a bypass valve 9 and is joined with the other material air, cooled and liquefied in the main air heat exchanger 1, and is supplied to a fractionating tower 4.
