Crystals of acrylic polymer can be prepared from solutions in certain solvents, for example propylene carbonate. Acrylic polymer fibres and films plasticised with such solvents can be prepared. It has now been found that these plasticised fibres and films can be drawn to a high degree at temperatures around their melting point, for example x15 uniaxially or x5 and x5 biaxially. The drawn fibres and films have good strength and modulus. The method can be used to process acrylonitrile homopolymer. |
