PURPOSE:To control gear shift without inconvenience though vehicle speed is remarkable changed when speed change is commanded in neutral condition by once shifting gear to a prescribed high shift stage, and deciding a target gear position following to the checked result of actual vehicle speed. CONSTITUTION:When a vehicle speed sensor 17 is out of order and a gear is in neutral, a computed vehicle speed value directly before the trouble is set in vehicle speed data, and shift control is executed. In this case, when shift control is necessary, the gear is once shifted to a sixth shift stage, vehicle speed at the time is computed, and the computed value is set as a vehicle data. Consequently, when the vehicle speed is increased due to being on down slope at neutral gear, vehicle speed at request of speed change can be checked. In this case, because the gear is always shifted once to the sixth shift stage, excessive burden is not generated on the transmission by this gear shift operation even though the vehicle speed is highly changed, and actual vehicle speed can be safely checked. |
