<p>The socket is of the type used in many European countries, which has two outer earth contacts (7) and two socket tubes along an imaginary line at right angles to the line between the earth contacts. The present socket's live supply terminal (19) is only connected to the appropriate socket tube (11) when the plug is inserted and the pin in the neutral socket tube (12) operates a switch. The switch (21) is operated by an arm (18) attached to an insulated lever (17) which pivots on a fixed pin. A variant of the socket also has a similarly operated switch in the neutral line.</p> |
