The invention concerns a method for feeding aquatic animals such as fish. The installation used for implementing the method comprises a feeding basin placed essentially below the surface of the water. This basin consists of a wall 1 of net structure which delimits the space enclosed by the feeding basin in the horizontal direction and whose upper edge is preferably placed above the surface of the water, and also of a base 2 which is made of a material impermeable to water and is joined to the lower edge of the wall 1. The parts 1, 2 together constitute the feeding basin enclosure used for feeding the aquatic animals. The installation also comprises a pump device 4, especially a mud pump, which is placed in the feeding basin enclosure and discharges the mud or the like accumulated therein, and a support arrangement 3 such as a pontoon structure. The inner surface of the wall 1 with its net structure is covered by a wire fabric 7 or the like, at least on its section under the surface of the water, for taking up the particles present in the water passing through the fabric 7 or the like and through the wall and thus into the inner enclosure of the feeding basin, and for discharging this in particular by use of the pump device 4. Water is conveyed to the feeding basin enclosure via a separate water supply system. <IMAGE>
