PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic device for detecting and/or measuring internal defects of a rail for a railroad which is protected from collisions and the coarseness of the surface of a rail head part in a method in which the device can be driven at high speed along a railroad to be measured and its ultrasonic sensors remarkably improve their reliability and lengthen their useful life. SOLUTION: This ultrasonic device for detecting and/or measuring internal defects of at least one of rails in situ and continuously includes at least one ultrasonic sensor 15 which receives the pressure driving in the direction of the rail. The sensor presses the rail via a smooth web 17 made of a synthetic material which transmits ultrasound. A means for forming a liquid film is provided between a plurality of sensors 15 and the web 17 and between the web 17 and the surface of the rail.
