摘要 The prepn. of hypoxanthin of formula (I) comprises reacting an aminocyanoethanoic acid deriv. of formula (II) or its salt with formamidine or a formamidine salt, where R = amino, 1-4C alkoxy or benzyloxy. Pref. formamidine acetate is used as the formamidine salt. 2-6 mol. formamidine or its salt are used per mol (II). Reaction is carried out in the presence of a polar solvent at 100-220 deg.C and 1-20 bar. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) is found in muscles, blood and urine as a component of nucleic acids of many organisms, and can be used in medicine e.g. for liver regeneration. The process gives (I) in good yields and purity and can be carried out on an industrial scale. The process is more ecologically friendly than previous processes in that large amts. of salts are not produced, and the very high excesses of the reactants ammonia and ortho methanoic acid esters previously necessary are avoided.
