The primer is suitable for the prevention of corrosion of metals when used as a single coating in combination with paint and lacquer coatings. It can be applied to wet surfaces ensuring a complete transformation of the rust into a stable form, with the resulting protective layer showing good adhesion to the metal substrate thus increasing the corrosion resistance of the applied paint and lacquer coatings. The formulation of this rust-transforming primer includes: vegetable origin tanning extract, polyvinyl acetate dispersion or synthetic polycondensation resin, citric or phosphoric acid, ethyl or isopropyl alcohol, ethoxylated nonylphenol, water and triethanolamine ester and contains in weight parts: bentonite 0.5-3, vegetable tanning extract 10-22, polyvinyl acetate dispersion or synthetic polycondensation resin 20-40, citric or phosphoric acid 2-8, ethyl and/or isopropyl alcohol 10-30, ethoxylated nonylphenol 0.5-2, water 20-40 and triethanolamine ester of vegetable origin fatty acids 0.1-5.
