These compounds are used as chemostatic agents. They have the following general formula:<IMAGE>in which R stands for<IMAGE>The method for preparing derivatives of 3,18-dihydroxy-9,13-epoxylabdane involves carrying out a catalyst-aided dehydrogenation of 3,15,16,18-tetrahydroxy-9,13-epoxylabdane in a medium of a boiling organic solvent. Activated Raney nickel is used as the catalyst and the method requires that the 3,15,16,18-tetrahydroxy-9,13-epoxylabdane be treated with acetone in the presence of an aqueous solution of sulphuric acid prior to dehydrogenation.
