PURPOSE:To obtain an efficient photocatalyst having high activity by bringing a catalyst supporting a catalytically active reducing, component and a photocatalyst supporting a catalytically active oxidizing component into contact with each other and bringing a water repellent material into contact with one of them. CONSTITUTION:A component having catalytic activity to the reduction reaction of gaseous CO2, e.g., copper or mercury is supported on an electrically conductive carrier such as carbon black. A component having catalytic activity to the oxidation reaction of water, e.g., silver or platinum is supported on a semiconductor such as titanium dioxide. They are brought into contact with each other and a water repellent material is brought into contact with one of them to obtain a photocatalyst having high activity. Since the active sites are separate from each other, the recombination of electric charges is prevented. By the contact of the water repellent material, the catalyst floats in an aq. soln. and is usually present in the surface layer of the soln. |
