A control valve for the flush of toilets includes a means for selectively making it possible to drain all or just part of the water contained in the cistern. The valve includes a first shut-off element (4) which is located at the lowermost point of the water cistern and the action of which allows all of the liquid contained in this cistern to flow out. At an intermediate level (19) of the water cistern there is a second shut-off element (3) via which an intermediate passage (31) can be opened or closed, which passage is connected with a cylindrical part (16) of the first shut-off element (4) so that opening this second shut-off element (3) allows the upper half of the water to flow out through this intermediate passage (31) from the cylindrical part (16) and from the outlet (25) of the cistern. This valve makes it possible to avoid an excessive flow of water in toilets by offering the possibility of using half the contents of the cistern alone for rinsing out the pan when that amount is deemed sufficient. <IMAGE>
