The invention relates to a device automatically allowing release of the safety belt in the event of an accident. It consists of a central casing (1), situated between the seats of the vehicle and having six faces, including an upper face, a front face and a rear face. The upper face has a transverse slot into which the lower part of the safety belt (4) is fitted, which part is normally attached to the floor of the vehicle. A tube (2) is screwed into the orifice in the rear face. A movable round element (3) retains the safety belt in this tube. At the front part, a tube (5) screwed into an orifice on this face contains a spring (6) and a moving element (7) having, on its rear face, a narrowed part (27) forming a striker (hammer). This moving element has the function, after the impact, of abruptly pushing the moving element (3) back, and thus of releasing the bottom part of the safety belt. The positions of the moving element (3) are adjusted by two small balls. The device according to the invention is particularly intended for releasing safety belts within two seconds after the impact. <IMAGE>
