PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain in high optical purity at a low cost the title compound useful as an intermediate for synthesizing medicines etc. by optically selective hydrolysis in an aqueous medium of L-alpha-alanineamide in the presence of the microbial cells of specific microorganisms belonging to Rahnella. CONSTITUTION:In the presence of the cultured product, microbial cells or treated product thereof of microorganisms belonging to Rahnella and capable of making asymmetric hydrolysis of L-alpha-alanineamide [e.g. Rahnella sp. H-7246 (FERM BP-2871)], DL-alpha-alanineamide or L-alpha-alanineamide is optically selectively hydrolyzed in an aqueous medium to obtain the objective compound, which is then taken from said aqueous medium. |
