The device has a housing with an essentially horizontal base plate (11), a seat carrier mounted on the base plate and a rotation assembly with a test head element, which can be displaced to act on at least one element (20) of a car seat between the test head element and the carrier. A first mechanism moves the carrier along an axis parallel to the base plate. A second mechanism rotates the carrier about an axis perpendicular to the base plate. A vertical load mechanism moves the rotation assembly linearly along the rotation axis with the test head acting on the seat element on the carrier. A lifting mechanism can move the assembly along the rotation axis to disengage the test head element. A pair of motors (41) drive the mechanisms and are selectively operated using a controller.
