PURPOSE:To effectively prevent fouling from occurring and enable continuous operation by the coexistence of a polysiloxane compound in a polymerization system in obtaining a rubber-like ethylenic polymer, according to a slurry polymerization method using a V-, Zr-or Hf-based catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Ethylene is copolymerized with an alpha-olefin or further a conjugated diene, in the presence of a catalyst prepared by supporting a transition metallic compound [preferably a zirconium compound such as dimethylsiliconbis(tetrahydroindenyl) zirconium chloride] selected from V, Zr and Hf and an organoaluminum compound (e.g. trimethylaluminum) on a carrier (preferably SiO2, etc.), in the coexistence of a polysiloxane compound, in a polymerization medium (e.g. propane) without dissolving the produced copolymer. Furthermore, e.g. homopolymer of dimethylsiloxane is used as the aforementioned polysiloxane compound.
