In the novel moderate-temperature compartment (2) for a refrigerator (11), temperatures of from 8 to 15 DEG C prevail. At these temperatures, butter remains spreadable, drinks are not too cold and numerous sorts of fruit and vegetables can be stored without affecting either the taste or the consistency. The moderate-temperature compartment (2) is completely separated from the conventional refrigeration compartment (5) and from the deep freeze/freezer compartment (4). It is accessible, depending on the design of the refrigerator, either directly through a separate door (6), or through an internal door of the moderate-temperature compartment (9), or directly through the main door (10). The moderate-temperature compartment (2) either uses its own refrigeration unit, which can be adjusted independently, or cooling coils for the moderate-temperature compartment (16) which are situated in the desired number at the level of the return of the refrigerant product. As required, the temperature of the moderate-temperature compartment (2) can also be adjusted using a thermostatic regulator (thermostat) (14). <IMAGE>
