<p>A series of V type piston engines is made using a common offset (L5) between banks of cylinders and the same V angle, even where big end bearings (21) on a common crankpin (22, 22a) are spaced differently. This is achieved by using a connecting rod offset (L4) for both a V6 and a V8 type engine such that in the V6 the centres (31) of the big end bearings are spaced further apart than the bank offset and in the V8 the centres of the big end bearings are spaced closer than the bank offset. <IMAGE></p> |
