PRODUCTION OF SUPERFINE FIBER COMPOSED OF MELT-ANISOTROPIC AROMATIC POLYESTER

PURPOSE:To obtain the subject fiber excellent in strength by treating conjugate fiber in which a melt-anisotropic aromatic polyester is divided into plural segments with a readily alkali-decomposable polyester with an alkaline solution and then heat-treating the treated fiber. CONSTITUTION:Conjugate fiber in which a melt-anisotropic aromatic polyester is divided into >=2 segments with a readily alkali-decomposable polyester is spun and then treated with an alkaline solution to remove the readily alkali- decomposable polyester. The conjugate fiber is divided into respective segments, which are subsequently heat-treated at a temperature of >=(the melting point of the melt-anisotropic aromatic polyester constituting the aforementioned segments -80 deg.C) and <= the melting point thereof. Thereby, the strength is increased by >=30% to afford the objective fiber.
