PURPOSE:To protect a reading means from trouble such as ink mist or the like, for example, to be generated in the reading means by providing a protecting means having transmissivity for the optical path part at least in the reading means, and cleaning the transmissive part at least. CONSTITUTION:In order to prevent a light source 218, which is composed of a photodetector 232, lamp 123 and filter 220 arranged in a read sensor 217, from getting dirty by the ink mist, the photodetector 232, lamp 233 filter 220 are respectively held in enclosures 245a and 246a and in the optical path parts of those enclosures, transmissive members such as glass windows 245b and 246b are provided, for example. By the glass windows and cleaning means as protecting members, an optical system can be prevented from getting dirty by the ink mist, particles of paper or water drop, etc., in the machine, and a density nonuniformity reading unit can be prevented from being degraded with the passage of time. |
