A vaginal speculum comprises two separable elements 1, 2, each of which has a spoon part 3, 3' which can be inserted into the vagina and a grip part 4, 4' which is directed at an angle in relation to the first part, and the upper element 1 can be displaced relative to the lower element 2 in order to widen the vagina after the spoon parts have been inserted into it. Each of the spoon parts 3, 3' of the two speculum elements 1, 2 has, along each of its two opposite longitudinal sides, side walls 7, 7' which extend along at least half the total length of the spoon part, but end at a distance from the free end of the spoon part in order to leave a free space in the area of the said end and also in order to prevent collapse of the vaginal walls in the area situated near the vaginal opening between the spoon parts, even when these are separated from each other to the maximum extent. <IMAGE> |
