PURPOSE:To improve the recognition factor at re-input by replacing the characters that can not be recognized in the inputted character string pattern information with blanks for reproduction of the character pattern information and sending this pattern information to an information input/output terminal. CONSTITUTION:The pattern information segmented by a character recognizing area detecting/segmenting part 442 of a medium conversion part 42 is recognized by a pattern/code conversion part 423 and then converted into the character code information. A character pattern that could not be recognized is converted into the code information showing an unrecognizable state. If an unrecognizable code is included in a code train, the character code information is converted into the pattern information by a code/pattern conversion part 424 together with the unrecognizable code converted into the blank pattern information. A pattern editing part 425 edits a pattern and sends it to an information input/ output terminal 1 where the pattern information is inputted via a pattern transfer part 411. Thus no time/labor is needed for erasing the unrecognizable characters and at the same time the recognition factor is improved at re-input.
