PURPOSE:To obtain characteristics with stable opacifying action and high coloring density and to achieve a repeated display and a long life of a memory by providing a solution-transmittable dielectric layer on a display layer. CONSTITUTION:In an ECD cell that uses a tin oxide film for a display electrode and platinum (or gold) for an opposed electrode, a solution-transmittable dielectric layer such as a hydrated resin layer, a porous ceramics layer, an inorganic pigement layer and an organic pigment layer is formed on a display electrode. The porous ceramics layer is formed by sticking a porous ceramics plate to a display electrode. Other layers are formed by electrodeposition of a charged colloidal solution. For the hydrated resin layer, a water dispersion system emulsion solution of synthetic resin is used as a colloidal solution. For an inorganic pigment layers a colloidal solution obtained by dispersing a pigment with an ionic surfactant is used. |
