COMPOSITIONS CONTAINING PHOSPHONO COMPOUNDS AND ORGANIC ACIDS AS FLAMEPROOFING AGENTS

The permanence of the flameproofing finish on fibre materials, in particular those based on cellulose, is improved on using as finish a phosphone compound which contains an N-methylol group together with an organic carboxylic acid. In particular if the carboxylic acid used is oxalic acid, the finished fibre material can be stored in a moist environment for a prolonged period without a need for an intermediate wash. The hydrolysis tendency of the finish in a moist atmosphere is reduced by using the organic carboxylic acid in place of a mineral acid.
